About me

My name is Marco de Goeij, an Amsterdam-based Matchmove TD working for feature films, tv series, commercials and music videos. My early background includes mechanical engineering (MSc), creative photography, web/software development, programming and database design. Over the past 15+ years I have developed strong skills as a 3D generalist, having worked on several character-driven projects.

I got into matchmoving after I joined fxphd late 2007, where I formed a broad base in visual effects. Since then I've worked on numerous projects as a matchmover, such as Cloud Atlas, Iron Man 3, Snow Piercer, The Book Thief, Captain America 2 and 3, The Man from UNCLE, The Lake, Doctor Strange, Portal: No Escape and Played.

Recently I've gotten very interested in properly integrating a matchmove workflow using 3DEqualizer and Maya into a Shotgun VFX pipeline, optimizing the whole onset to post production workflow, using photogrammetry as a low budget alternative for lidar survey, and developing concept ideas for realtime previs.

What is matchmoving?

A Matchmover takes information from a real-life set and recreates a (moving) virtual camera, terrain, set/object geometry and object or character movement, and locks those into a background plate shot on set.

Matchmoves are delivered to the rest of the Visual Effects Department for use in adding other 3D CG elements such as animated characters, creatures, props, digital set extensions or digital enhancement to real objects or characters in a plate.
